NSF A3D3 Postbaccalaureate Research Fellow Program 2023-24

[…]
The Accelerated AI Algorithms for Data-Driven Discovery (A3D3) Institute funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), under the Harnessing the Data Revolution (HDR) program, is seeking postbaccalaureate research fellows  to join our interdisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers to develop and deploy artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate science discoveries in particle physics, astrophysics, biology, and neuroscience. The application deadline is March 3, 2023. Applications will be handled through Academic Jobs Online: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/22854
This program seeks to give students holding a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field the opportunity to conduct groundbreaking AI research prior to applying to graduate school or continuing their careers. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of a holistic rubric including categories for academic preparation, research potential, social justice and community involvement, alignment with the program, and potential benefit from the program (e.g., lack of prior access to research opportunities). There is no minimum GPA requirement and no prior research experience is required. We strongly encourage women and individuals from traditionally underrepresented groups in STEM to apply.
The appointment is for a one-year term with a nominal start date of June 5, 2023. This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. Postbac fellows will be assigned to one of the projects listed at https://a3d3.ai/jobs.html at one of the hosting institutions based on preferences and availability. Postbac fellows will also have access to professional development opportunities including career guidance and graduate school preparation.
A3D3 is a multi-disciplinary and geographically distributed entity with the primary mission to lead a paradigm shift in the application of real-time artificial intelligence (AI) at scale to advance scientific knowledge and accelerate discovery.

CERN Summer Student Programme 2023 (Member and Non-Member State)

Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on home.cern.

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN’s mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization.

One of CERN’s key missions is education. Our professionals very much enjoy sharing their knowledge and expertise with students who are committed and passionate about their chosen field. And there’s no better way to learn than on-the-job: when that job happens to be with a world-famous research organization and centre of scientific excellence, it’s even better.

Are you currently studying for a Bachelor or Master degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics? Are you looking for a training period during the European summer (June – September)? If so, this could be the opportunity for you: apply now for the CERN Summer Student Programme 2023!

Dear Colleague(s):

With National Science Foundation support for over three decades, the Physics Department and the Materials Research Center (MRSEC) at the University of Chicago have conducted a highly successful Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program.  Projects are distributed among the areas of astrophysics, atomic physics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, high-energy physics, materials science, mathematical physics, nanoscience, polymers, space physics, spectroscopy of materials, and other topics.  This research experience is complemented by a lecture series, field trips to Fermi and Argonne National Laboratories, and special social events.  We expect to accept around 20-24 summer research interns.  The application deadline is February 15, 2023.

We have enclosed the 2023 REU poster and an announcement about a particular science/art/theater component associated with these REUs.  Although the Physics MRSEC Summer REU programs are funded separately, the program activities and administration have been combined.  Collectively, we expect to be able to accept 20-24 students for the 2023 summer programs.  We request that you display the REU poster in an area of maximum exposure for interested students.

We also greatly appreciate any efforts you can make to encourage your qualified undergraduate students who might benefit from such programs to apply.  We are very confident and enthusiastic about the prospects of providing very positive experiences for the participating students and faculty.

Thank you very much for your assistance in distributing this information.  Please email us at reu@uchicago.edu with questions and/or mailing address corrections for future REU mailings.

Sincerely

Tracy Walker

Dear SPS Advisors, Mentors and Officers,

We would like to make the SPS members and the rest of the undergraduate physics students at your school aware of the Graduate Physics and Space Physics programs at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. We offer a PhD in Physics, a PhD in Space Physics, an MS in Physics, and an MS in Physics with concentrations in Computational Physics or Space Physics.

Attached is an electronic version of our Graduate program poster (~1MB in size), which we would greatly appreciate if you could print out and post somewhere appropriate for the students.  We are still accepting applications for fall 2023 admission, though anyone interested in a teaching assistantship should apply quickly.  Contact information is on the poster or you can contact Professor Martin Truffer (the Graduate Program Coordinator and Department Chair) at mtruffer2@alaska.edu.

Many people are not aware of a Physics Graduate program in Alaska, but we do offer a variety of interesting research opportunities ranging from Space Physics (with the only university-owned rocket range in the US) to Arctic Science and Nonlinear Physics; and all that in an unparalleled natural setting.

Sincerely
